Choosing Just Right Books
Use the I-Pick Strategy
Scholastic Book Wizard
The Scholastic Book Wizard is a great place to go and find the levels of all of your favorite books. You can also type in the name of a book that you like, and the wizard will find books that are similar to that book.
Character Scrapbook Page
A character in a story can be a person or an animal. We have also learned that this character has traits that make him or her special and different from other characters. An author will sometimes directly tell you what a character looks or acts like. However, sometimes the author will show you through what the character says, how they act or what others say about them.
After reading a book, go to the following link and create a scrapbook page about your favorite character. You may want to take notes or use post-it notes as you are reading the book so you do not forget the traits that are important. On this page, you may list ten traits. After completing the scrapbook page, you may print it out. Think hard about the traits. Use your Writer's Notebook if you get stuck to help you decide on specific traits.
