Clock It Reading and Math

Your child will have homework to complete each week. They are required to read to you for 100 minutes each week. I encourage you to use the strategies that we are using in class to check his/her comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and to extend their vocabulary. I am putting them on this website under Reading - Strategies. Please mark the clocks on their Clock It Reading page and sign this weekly. Your child is also required to do 45 minutes of Math Fact practice each week. He/She can go to websites that are on the Math tab under Fact Practice or play games with you or practice facts under the wipe off page. Usually there will be a Math worksheet for the week. This can also count as their 45 minutes. Make sure that your child marks their time on the clock on their Clock It Math page and circles the skill he worked on and writes what he did. You must also sign this page. All Clock It Reading and Math is due on Monday, Tuesday if we are out of school on Monday. Since your child has a full 7 days to complete homework, it is due on Monday even if they have been absent a day or two. I will give your child a Homework sheet for their Star binder as well as post it on this site. It tells you the date I give the assignment, the assignment, and the due date. I feel this is helpful so your child learns to balance their time during the week.
Your child will also have a weekly Spelling Test. Go to SpellingCity.com to find my weekly list. Please enforce practice of these words. Beginning the third week of school, we will begin our weekly Spelling tests. Your child will take a Pretest to determine if they will need to complete the Regular list on Friday or the Challenge list. If your child scores a 90% or above on the Pretest, he/she will go forward with the Challenge list on Friday. The test list will not be published until Friday. If your child studies the Study list throughout the week and watches the videos that I have created, he/she should be able to transfer that learning to a list of words that are unseen until Friday.
